Many people question why the book of Jasher, yā-šār, is not in the Bible. They say that this book is mentioned in the Bible and so as the Bible itself mentions it, not one time merely twice. These are Joshua 10-thirteen and 2 Samuel 1-18,  it should be included as a function of the Bible. Of form if the Bible refers to information technology past name as support for its own writings then why wouldn't it be classed as authorised scripture? If it is good plenty to reference as back up why isn't information technology practiced plenty to be included? It is frequently claimed that this is a lost book, that information technology was included as scripture but was removed at some point, past someone.  The Catholic Church building would seem to bear the master brunt of the accusations on this one.

The chief answer I come across given in response to these questions, an answer I personally have used in the past but in bodily fact call up is a totally unsatisfactory and now in fact a totally incorrect reply, is, just because the Bible mentions the book does not mean that it is inspired and should be included. This to me is a very weak argument and, rightly so,  does not ordinarily convince anyone that says the book of Jasher should be included. All information technology does is circumvolve reason the book is non inspired considering it is non included. This may satisfy those who already believe we have an inspired and right text but it isn't going to convince those that can come across the book is referenced and believe it was removed.

So why is the Book of Jasher not included in the Bible? What is the correct answer?
Why the book of jasher is not in the Bible

I decided to study the real reason that the book was not included as scripture. Was it really removed by the Catholic Church building. What I found during this study was quite surprising.

The elementary fact is there was no book of Jasher, that was written BC anyway,  and was referenced in the Bible. The Bible does Non reference this volume at all considering it did not be until AFTER the NT had been written. Information technology is an AD construct.

Today the book of Jasher,  can exist purchased in printed book form, quite readily available in some book stores and the net. However, it's of import to note hither that there are actually a number of unlike works known past this championship, at least 5 possibly upwardly to 12. ALL of which were composed much later than Biblical times and certainly afterward than the date it would have had to accept existed as per the OT references to it. NONE of the books of Jasher which have been discovered are the "book of Jasher" that is referenced in the Bible, despite their claims to the contrary . They are all much later attempts to create a volume that was accounted to be missing.

Earliest Hebrew

The earliest Hebrew that is bachelor (at that place are earlier NON Hebrew writings ALL of which are Advertisement in origin )  comes in printed form, printed in Venice dated 1625 . This is really considered by many to exist a copy of the original book of Jasher. According to this edition of the text there was an edition that was published in 1552 in Naples Italy. Still at that place are no copies of this and there is no collaborating evidence that supports this claim. The 1625 text was first  published in English in New York in 1840 by Mordecai Manuel Noah. The actual translator of this text remained bearding although some do claim this was done by a Mr. Samuel of Liverpool. Many scholars believe it to have been written in the 13th Century probably in Spain.

Information technology is written in paraphrase style similar to those of Jewish liturgical writings of this period and follows the blueprint of the rabbinical parashot which would suggest, at least, that information technology was equanimous by rabbinical writers much later on than its supposed origin which would be at least 2000 years before. Information technology includes chapters and verses something that was not included in Any of the original Biblical writings and was not added until 1551 Advertizement by Stephanus

And so What almost these 2 supposed references to the volume in the Bible itself?

Let's have a wait at the first reference in the book of Joshua

Joshua ten-13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is non this written in the volume of Jasher? So the sunday stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted non to go down about a whole day.

The truth is, and this is Central to agreement these references,  'Jasher' does non fifty-fifty refer to a person called Jasher. Jasher simply is NOT a name, it is an Describing word. This is so very frequently totally ignored or in most cases not even known. The KJV has transliterated the Hebrew הַיָּשָׁ֑ר hay-yā-šār; simply meaning the upright one. Again this is NOT a name. In that location is no name Jasher and there is no book of Jasher (that existed at the fourth dimension of the reference anyway).

When nosotros understand that this is not referring to a book written by a person called Jasher but rather a person who is THE JASHER or hay-yā-šār we get a much clearer understanding.  Information technology is written in the scroll/volume (the Hebrew word translated every bit book is סֵ֣פֶר sê-p̄er )  of the upright one (The Jasher)

The reference hither is to where this is written. We do not need to go outside of the Bible itself to find where this is in fact written. Information technology is really written in the Book of Habakkuk

Habakkuk 3-11 The sunday and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.

Habakkuk was a prophet and therefore one who was upright. He is THE Jasher, the upright one referenced in Joshua.

The second supposed reference to the Book of Jasher is in ii Samuel ane-18

ii Samuel one-18 (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the apply of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)

Notwithstanding when we look at the word Jasher in the Hebrew we over again see that it is הַיָּשָֽׁר׃ hay-yā-šār. , and over again information technology is not referring to a volume written by a person called Jasher but rather information technology is written in the book of THE Jasher ( hay-yā-šār) or rather the book of the upright one.

Many people incorrectly think that the reference to what is written in the book of Jasher is the argument  " Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow". And then as this statement is non institute anywhere in the Bible,  it is causeless that it was written in the book of Jasher. But when nosotros wait at the book of Jasher this is actually non the case. This statement is not found there either. The statement David taught the children of Judah the use of the bow is not included in the book of Jasher and so this argument just fails.

But information technology is this understanding that it must have been, which is what causes the confusion. This is Not in fact what is being made reference to at all.

And then what is information technology referring to? What is written in the book of Jasher or more correctly THE Jasher, the upright 1 is "the bow".

"The  Bow" is actually the proper name of the lamentation vocal that David wrote afterwards he had heard of the death of his friend Jonathan 2 Samuel affiliate ane.

It is this SONG which is translated equally the use of,  that David bade teach the children. And it is this Song that is written in the book of (the) Jasher.

And then where is this song written. Information technology is actually written in the BIBLE, in fact it is written in the SAME  book and Same chapter as the reference to it is made , 2 Samuel.

2 Samuel ane- 19 The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen! xx Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. 21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, allow in that location be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast abroad, the shield of Saul, equally though he had not been anointed with oil. 22 From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned non empty.

2 -Samuel 1- 23 Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their decease they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions. 24 Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights, who put on ornaments of gilt upon your dress. 25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the boxing! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places. 26 I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy honey to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. 27 How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!

2 Samuel is the book in which the song which David said to teach is written. Samuel is the Jasher ( hay-yā-šār). It is not stating that information technology is written in a separate book.

How can we know this?

The language used in verse 18  is very important.

Notice that nosotros have the discussion BEHOLD. Behold is used to bespeak something that needs to be taken notice of, to wait upon. Here the word BEHOLD is telling united states of america to take detect of what and then follows, which is the very song that it says is written in the book of the Jasher. Behold the song " the bow" that David said to teach the children of Judah is written in the book of the Jasher the righteous one, and then the vocal "the bow" is written, in the book of THE Jasher, 2 Samuel.

When nosotros compare this linguistic communication to the first reference we run across that in the first reference we are posed a question i southward not this written in the volume of Jasher? We are not told to behold. We take a reference to separate place of where it is written.

Joshua 10-13 And the sun stood nevertheless, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is non this written in the book of Jasher? So the lord's day stood notwithstanding in the midst of sky, and hasted not to become downwards about a whole day.

But the use of Behold in 2 Samuel brings our attention to what follows, in two Samuel.

Furthermore  when we see the term "it is written" elsewhere in the Bible it is in reference to a separate identify where it is written.  BUT it is preceded past the discussion AS. We meet the term "Every bit" it is written in,

A few of the many examples establish in the OT.

Joshua viii-31 as Moses the servant of the Lord commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the volume of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no human being hath lift up any atomic number 26: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings.

1 Kings 2-three and keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the police of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever k turnest thyself:

Daniel ix-thirteen Equally it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon u.s.a.: all the same fabricated nosotros not our prayer before the Lordour God, that nosotros might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

Again this is non what precedes the use in 2 Samuel. We are non told every bit information technology is written in …..just to BEHOLD it is written ……

One objection to Habukkuk existence the Jasher is that Habukkuk lived much after than Joshua, Joshua died before Habukkuk lived and then Joshua could not take referenced him.

While on the face up of it this may seem like a logical objection ultimately it can be shown incorrect with a petty bit of written report.

Habakkuk lived and wrote around 600Bc. The volume of Joshua is generally ascribed to have taken on written form around 550bc during the Babylonian exile. If this date were correct and then the writings or teachings of Joshua which would have existed but not in official book class earlier this appointment, were then formulated officially into a "book" at this time. If this is the instance then the book of Joshua was written after Habakkuk was written and so it would not be a trouble for the book of Joshua to reference the book of Habakkuk and refer to Habakkuk as the Jasher. Now apparently it tin still be argued that if the writings of Joshua or his teachings were merely written downwards in official form in 550bc he all the same wouldn't accept been able to take referenced Habakkuk. Again just a little bit of study will evidence how at that place was no need for Joshua himself to have referenced Habakkuk at all. This was simply a later interpolation into the book of Joshua. It is very clear, regardless of the actual date the book of Joshua was written, whether information technology be 550bc equally about scholars believe or in fact an earlier limerick or fifty-fifty written by Joshua himself, that the book contains MANY later interpolations that could merely have been added to the book at a later date by a subsequently writer. Let's accept a wait at this and demonstrate this claim. I shall requite but a few of examples to prove this.

Start of all the volume of Joshua records the death of Joshua

Joshua 24:29 And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old. 30 And they cached him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

This was conspicuously the piece of work of a afterward writer and could non have been written by Joshua.

There is evidence of fifty-fifty more after interpolations within the volume.

Caleb's conquest of the urban center of Hebron is recorded in the book.

Joshua fifteen: thirteenAnd unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the urban center of Arba the father of Anak, which metropolis is Hebron. 14And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

Caleb's conquest was after Joshua had died. Joshua could non take included this himself.

Furthermore we come across the rex of Hormah mentioned in Joshua 12:14

Joshua 12:fourteen The rex of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, ane;

Hormah is the Hebrew חָרְמָה chormah

Still, the town of Hormah did not exist at the time of Joshua. Hormah did not come into beingness until the time of Judah, when the town of Zephath, a Canaanite boondocks was destroyed and the proper name inverse to Hormah.

Judges 1: 17And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

The reference to the king of Hormah could simply have been a later interpolation back into the book past a later author who was already aware of this fact.

While I personally would not assert that joshua wasn't the author of the book of Joshua, the appointment of authorship of the volume of Joshua nor the actual author, simply does not in any fashion prove that Habakkuk is not the Jasher.

Having seen that afterward interpolations most certainly did occur the objection to Habakkuk beingness the Jasher referenced cannot be substantiated.

The fact is the volume of Jasher has non been removed from the Bible considering in that location was no book of Jasher. The utilise of THE Jasher is a reference to the sacred and inspired texts which are included in the Bible.

This writing will exist expanded on.
